Well as you can tell from the photo I’m not the only one that has been getting excited for JHO every Sunday night. This last Sunday was amazing! We continued onto week 5 of our “Summer of Swagger” series. This week was part two of fellowship. If you missed last weeks recap blog with part one of fellowship click here. Here is what was discussed…
We went to 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body— whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and thave all been made to drink into one Spirit.14 For in fact the body is not one member but many.15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?17 If the whole body were an eye, wherewould be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty,24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it,25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it;or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.”
The first thing that we discussed is something that I believe with all my heart…
1. We are not us without You!
In our text it is very clear that the body needs every part of the body! The body is not complete without all of its parts. To every single student I looked at, I told them, we are not us without you! It’s true! Every person is important, valuable, accepted, and loved!
2. God placed you here!
I told the kids that your parents may have brought you here but God placed you here! In verse 18 it says “God has set the members” and then again in verse 24 it says “God composed”. In our group we have someone who just moved from Germany, California, The Dominican Republic, and Georgia. All blended together with people from Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Tenino, and Shelton! No man could have ever put this diverse group together, only God himself could have assembled and composed this great group of kids! God placed every single one here on purpose!
3. We need each other!
In verse 21 it says that the eye can not say to the hand that it has no need of it. So it is with us, we all need each other because we all play a unique role in each others lives! I always say that what makes us unique makes us useful! Every person plays a significant role in the body and in our lives, we need everyone!
4. Don’t cut yourself off!
Isolation is deadly! If any part of the human body get removed from the body, it dies. I encouraged the kids that as we all grow together they need to make sure that life, and circumstances do not cut them off. When we are isolated from the body-from the family of God we are the perfect target for an attack from the enemy of our souls. We must stick together!
After service we began to do some interviews with students. Something happened that made my heart glad! I asked kids the question, “What would you say to a JH student that has never come to JHO?” Here were some of their answers..
“We are a family here at JHO!”
“We need you!”
“We will love and accept you!”
COME ON!!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!! THESE ARE JH STUDENTS TALKING!!!
I believe we are shattering the preconceptions and stigmas that have been placed students JH years for a long time! We are going to change this county one life at a time. Because “We are not us without You.”
